Silverlake’s SwimAmerica swim lessons are designed to teach all the swim skills your child needs to be safe in and around the water for a lifetime. Our learn-to-swim program focuses on safety skills and the ability swim.
Swim Lessons Progression System
Waterbabies – Water acclimation and survival skills. Child must be 6 to 36 months old. Parents will be in the water!
Toddler I – Mastered Waterbabies and enjoys being in the water with parent. Survival skills, blowing bubbles, floating on their fronts and floating on their backs. Parent is in the water with child.
Toddler II – age 2-3 . Loves being in the water. Not quite ready to be in class on their own. Parent is in the water! Survial Skills, blowing bubbles, floating.
Level 1 – Students will be learning to put their face into the water and blowing bubbles, floating on their fronts, and floating on their backs. Ten relaxed bobs is the advancement goal to Level 2.
Level 2 – Learning to glide on his/her front and back in streamline position. To advance students must push off the wall and glide on their front and back for 5 seconds in a streamline position.
Level 3 – Introduction to kick, will be working on streamline kicking on front and back. To advance students must stream line kick on front and back for 15 feet.
Level 4 – Begin side gliding and front crawl stroke. To advance, students must side glide 20 feet and front crawl with side breathing 20 feet.
Level 5/6 – Students will be working on freestyle with rotary breathing and back stroke. To advance to Blue Star Stroke School, students must swim 25 yards of proper freestyle with rotary breathing and 25 yards of back stroke with ease.
Level 7/8 -Taught in Blue Star Stroke School.
Level 9/10 -Taught in Starfish.
Tri Athlete / Swim Training – Adult must be able to swim to enter this class. We will work on technique on how to improve your strokes build endurance.
Blue Star Stroke School will be for those swimmers who intend on learning advanced elements in stroke efficiency in all four strokes, but do not want to compete. This will include skills taught in the final stages of the SwimAmerica Program. A student in this group must have passed level 5 of SwimAmerica or have passed a proficiency test given by the site-supervisor. This test includes completing 25 yards of freestyle with rotary breathing and backstroke.
Starfish will be for those swimmers who pass Blue Star Stroke School. This group will focus on building the swimmers strength and endurance in every stroke through drills, multiple lengths, and on deck coaching. This group gives the swimmer the feeling of being on a swim team without competition. This allows a child to build their confidence in swimming for an easy transition to a more competitive team such as the Clippers Swim Team that finds their home here at Silverlake.
Note: Swimmer’s in this group are not permitted to be registered USA Swimmers.
